Cambridgeshire councillors have shelved plans for a wind farm on visual grounds, even though it would have been next to a dual carriageway and pylons. 10 out of 12 councillors in the Conservative-dominated South Cambridgeshire Council voted against the wind farm, which would have provided electricity for a third of the homes in South Cambridgeshire.
Renewable Energy Systems had proposed putting 13 turbines on Wadlow Farm near Balsham and West Wattling because surveys had shown the location have excellent wind speeds and as well as being away from human habitation.Annette Deveson, project manager for RES, said: "We are very disappointed at the council's decision. "More than two years of design work and local consultation created a good quality, low-impact wind farm on the best site for a wind farm in South Cambridgeshire." The company is considering an appeal, she added.
However, Philippa Corney, chairwoman of the council's planning committee, said: "The scale of this application was not appropriate for this particular location."
