The Banks Group of companies was founded in 1976 in County Durham. It has five regional offices and employs 300 staff. The Banks Group operational divisions include mining (HJ Banks Mining), road transport (Banks Brothers Transport Ltd) and construction (HJ Banks Construction).Banks Developments is the development arm of the company which identifies sites and seeks planning permission for projects in renewable energy, mineral extraction and waste management.

So far Banks Developments have obtained planning permission for two wind farm sites, but to date they have not erected any wind turbines. (As of 05/05/07)
