Write to the Post Office - DEADLINE 23rd JUNE

If you are writing to Post Office Ltd you may want to be aware of the key things they are taking into account:

Post Office Criteria

  • "nationally 95% of the total urban population across the UK to be within a mile of their nearest Post Office branch"
  • Changes should "create similar results across the UK as a whole and ensure that no group of inhabitants at an area level is overall significantly more adversely affected than any other."
  • "the proximity of ...nearby branches"
  • "the number of customers currently using a particular branch"
  • "the size and ability of nearby branches to absorb extra customers"
  • "the availability of public transport"
  • "local demographics"

Local points you may wish to make include:

  • If Hardwick Road Post Office closes then around 20% of Pontefract residents will be over a mile from a post office - that means Pontefract will have much lower access to post offices than other areas.
  • The nearest alternative, Ropergate, is over a mile away and involves a hilly walk or a congested drive.
  • The nearest bus stop to Hardwick Road Post Office is 450 yards away.
  • Local surveys suggest there are 1,000 visits to the Hardwick Post Office each week.

We need to make sure the Post Office understands the strength of local feeling.
