Our local Member for Parliament, Yvette Cooper visited West Park Homes on Friday 22 June 2007 to meet local residents and listen to their views regarding the recent planning application to erect six 125m tall wind turbines on Went Edge between Darrington and Wentbridge. Yvette was welcomed by the owner Mrs Valerie Miller and met with a number of residents who discussed their concerns about erecting a wind farm so close to domestic dwellings and to the A1.

Yvette listened carefully as residents highlighted their fears of the potential of shadow flicker which is caused by wind turbine blades as they rotate, cutting through the rays from the sun or moon resulting in a strobe-light effect.

Downing Street wind farm petition

!0 Downing Street web-siteAn e- petition has been opened on the Prime Ministers 10 Downing Street website calling for a halt to on shore wind farm developments on Greenbelt land. It is asking the government to re-issue guidance to local authorities to only allow on-shore developments to be sited on brownfield sites, and that they should be at least 2km away from any residential property. The e-petition reads “We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to stop all current on-shore Wind Farm development in Greenbelt areas until a national planning policy for renewable energy has been established.”  The petition organisers, Melton Wood Action Group, are trying to obtain over 30,000 signatories to ensure this petition is in the top 5 petitions on the Prime Ministers web site.   So if you would like to sign this e-petition click here.
