The first convey weaving through Chatham
The first convey weaving through Chatham

They're back!

Drivers are facing a series of bizarre delays next week as a fresh load of wind farm propeller blades are transported across Kent.

The first load of blades - 27 in total - were transported between Chatham and Romney Marsh at the beginning of June, and Kent Police warns of possible road disruption as a second batch of 48 blades is dispatched on a series of abnormally long vehicles.

There will be two movements of three loads leaving Chatham Dockyard at between 5.30am and 6am and again at around 11am on Monday.

The vehicles - 47metres long, but not excessively wide - will travel along the A289 Medway tunnel road, then join the M2 exiting at Junction 3.

The loads will continue down Blue Bell Hill and join the M20, exiting at junction 10. They will then travel along the A2070, A259 and arrive at the site in Romney Marsh.

This will route be repeated throughout the week, with no loads travelling at the weekend, and are expected movements will continue until Thursday July 31.

Each journey is expected to take between two and three hours.

Six Kent Police motorcyclists and one car will escort each movement.

Motorists are urged to listen travel bulletins before travelling the area to ensure they avoid any traffic delays.

It is anticipated that three further loads will be moved in one convoy in September.
